INFORMATION AND DISCUSSION MEETING on JIHADISM AND “ISLAMIC STATE”

Speaker: Dr. Thomas Schmidinger

The so called „Islamic State“ in Syria and Iraq is a result of regional and global developments. Thomas Schmidinger, a political scientist at the University of Vienna and an expert on Jihadism, Iraq and Syria, will discuss the background of these developments in the region and the radicalization of young Europeans. Dr. Schmidinger established an association (Netzwerk Sozialer Zusammenhalt) for the deradicalization and prevention of jihadism.

Access to VIC:

A VIC grounds pass is required to enter the Vienna International Centre.

grounds pass, are kindly requested to register by sending an email with:
1) separate indication of their family name and given name (as it appears in ID),
2) type of ID (passport or driving license) and

Deadline for registration: Thursday, 5 March 2015

Registered participants will be included in a list held by UN security
at the main gate of the VIC. Please present this invitation along
with a valid ID or passport at Gate 1 of the VIC.
Please consider that formalities at Gate 1 may take time and
kindly arrive sufficiently in advance of the meeting.

The VIC, 1220 Wien, Wagramer Strasse 5, is best reached by U1
(Kaisermühlen/Vienna International Centre).
